Past winners of Dancing on Ice

Since Dancing on Ice kicked off back in 2006, we’ve seen a whole host of celebrities slipping, sliding, bumping and bruising their way across our screens. Some take to it like ducks to water (or should that be penguins to ice?), others never seem to get the knack of skating and look relieved when they’re voted off.

So here’s a round-up of the winners of the six past series:

In 2006, the Coronation Street actress Gaynor Faye won the dancing crown. She beat back stiff competition from Bonnie Langford and Eastenders actor, Stefan Booth, in the final, to steal the show with her dance partner, Daniel Whiston, a UK gold medallist skater.

Former rugby union player, Kyran Bracken, took first place in the 2007 series of Dancing on Ice. His fellow finalists were 2point4children actress, Clare Buckfield, and Duncan James from the band Blue.  Kyran and his dancing partner Melanie Lambert won the final with a routine that involved ‘flying’ on wires.  They ended the series with their performance of Bolero. He went on to tour with Holiday on Ice.

For the third series, the top prize went to Suzanne Shaw, member of Hear’say.  Shaw was the first celebrity ever to receive the perfect score of 30.0 in the history of the competition, and did so twice during the final. Her partner was American pair skater, Matt Evers. People placing a Dancing on Ice bet should remember this.

Ray Quinn, actor and reality TV contestant, took the Dancing on Ice crown in the fourth series.  He had also come second in the 2006 X Factor. With his professional ice dancing partner Maria Filippov, he scored the perfect 30 in week six. They topped the leader board all the way through the competition.

The champion of series five was former Emmerdale actress Hayley Tamaddon, who was partnered with her childhood friend, professional skater Daniel Whiston.  She was in the final with Hollyoaks’ Kieron Richardson and Gary Lucy, from The Bill. Gary and Hayley both danced the Bolero with their respective partners and Tamaddon received 80% of the public vote.

And last year’s winner was Eastenders actor, Sam Attawater, who beat fellow finalists Chloe Madeley and Laura Hamilton, with his dance partner Brianne Delcourt.
We can’t wait to see who will join the Dancing on Ice hall of fame in 2012!

Amelia Lily ‘exhausted by X Factor schedule’

X Factor finalist Amelia Lily is said to be exhausted by the tough regime on the show and is even getting ill as a result.

The singer, who won herself a second chance in the competition after Frankie Cocozza was axed, is the youngest ever female singer to reach the final – at the age of 17.

And the gruelling X Factor schedule is reportedly taking its toll on her, with her contracting laryngitis in the past few days.

A source told The Sun: “She’s been under the most amount of pressure out of anyone and she’s just 17. She is fiercely ambitious but she hasn’t had the chance to grow up yet.”

The insider added that up until now, her voice has been her “biggest weapon”, but “singing has started to hurt” now and she is getting worried about the final. Those looking at the X Factor betting should remember this.

According to the newspaper, the show’s contestants spend around 12 to 14 hours a day working hard for the programme. They have to learn their dance routines, rehearse their songs and promote the show. Anyone placing an X Factor bet should bear this in mind.

Another insider claimed: “They are on call all the time. If they’re not in the studio, they’re on a red carpet or playing a secret gig.”

“There is very little time to rest. Even when they do, the cameras are rolling more often than not and it’s difficult to relax,” the source added.

Amelia unwittingly found herself in the centre of X Factor “fix” claims this week, after her winner’s single went on the HMV website, but the other two acts’ songs didn’t.

A show insider told The Mirror: “It is utterly outside our control and HMV have no insider knowledge on who might win this weekend.”

Of course, that hasn’t stopped social media users from speculating about Amelia being set up to win the competition since she returned to the show.

Audley says Strictly will help his boxing

Heavyweight boxer and Olympic super-heavyweight gold medallist Audley Harrison reckons his Strictly dancing will revitalise his career.

The 40 year-old pugilist says the show has been great for both body and spirit, saying, “my legs are definitely stronger now.”

Harrison has also encouraged heavyweight rival and former world champion David Haye to give Strictly a try-out as part of his training regimen. Those looking at the Strictly Come Dancing odds will wonder how much this will help.

Audley delighted fans throughout the competition with his cheerfulness and the effort he put in. Unfortunately, his personality and amiable attitude weren’t enough to overcome his terrible dancing ability!

In the opening show, the BBC treated viewers to some footage of Audley landing a big punch or two. But by week two, Audley was looking a little punch drunk himself as he and partner Natalie tried a little Salsa number. The joke ran that Audley was going to punch Craig if he didn’t get at least a couple of positive comments … so Craig gave him two positive comments; wouldn’t you!?

By the third show, Audley and Natalie only managed something of a mediocre quickstep, followed on the 22nd of October by a passable Foxtrot, whilst dancing to Petula Clark’s “Just don’t know what to do with my…” feet perhaps the song should have been?

The next week, Natalie did a jive, while Audley basically watched her. Well that’s more or less what happened. The Strictly Come dancing winner odds suggested he was never in with a real chance.

On Bonfire night, Audley and Natalie did a Viennese Waltz. As usual, Natalie danced for a while – whilst the big man watched. Audley then joined Natalie for the last bit, but it wasn’t enough for the judges!

And in their grand finale, the pair treated us to a Cha-cha. Audley lumbered around with a big smile on his face, whilst Natalie showed us all just how good a dancer she is. Len was hard but spot-on with his comment: “The only way you’re going to Wembley is on the Jubilee line”.

Farewell Audley. Let’s hope you’re right about the Strictly training regimen for your revitalised boxing career.

Louis Walsh is ‘essential’ to The X Factor, say JLS

Boyband JLS have revealed they believe Louis Walsh is “essential” to The X Factor.

The chart-topping group, who were mentored by Louis when they were on the show, said they hope the programme’s judging veteran will remain for years to come.

At the preview launch for their new album, Jukebox, Marvin Humes said: “We don’t care what they are saying about him. I think that Louis is an essential judge on The X Factor. So we hope Louis will be there for a very long time.”

His comments came after axed contestant Sami Brookes hit out at her former mentor earlier this week. People looking at the X Factor betting should remember this.
She claimed he had not put as much effort into mentoring her as he had his other acts and accused him of choosing rubbish songs for her, which she didn’t have a say in.

However, Marvin defended Louis, saying he was a great mentor during their time on the show and “he’s still doing an incredible job”.

According to The Sun though, Louis was already due to be axed for the current series, but he’d apparently signed his contract early, so they couldn’t let him go.
They were keen to have a completely new judging panel, but the producers were forced to keep Louis in, meaning they could only hire three new people to take part.

A source told the newspaper the fact Louis had already signed his contract “threw a massive spanner in the works”.

Along with defending Louis, JLS revealed they think Simon Cowell will make a return to the series, with Aston Merrygold saying that “he should come back” because “he is Mr X Factor”.

Marvin said: “He’ll make a special appearance one day. Maybe he should have a golden chair where he can sit and look at Louis and Gary and tell them when to speak!”

A “light-hearted” look at the Strictly stars’ snacking habits

Sequins, sambas and San Tropez by the bucket load – it can only be Strictly Come Dancing 2011. This year’s series has been a goldmine of gossip, tears and tantrums so far and the celebrity contestants have certainly been worth their fees to date, proving entertainment aplenty.

One of our favourite contestants this year has to be Italian fireball and former Sven Goran Eriksson admirer, Nancy Dell’Olio. Nancy has kept us on the edge of our seats with her erratic dance moves, allegedly fuelled by the posh champagne and caviar she likes to quaff before each of the live shows. People following the Strictly Come Dancing odds may have been a bit concerned by this.

They have now reportedly banned her from the bubbly and posh fish eggs, so she has taken a fancy to cans of Stella and pickled onion Monster Munch instead, which is unfortunate for her dancing partner Rob Brydon (aka Anton Du Beke).

Since they learnt that Nancy has been getting her fill of booze and savoury snacks, dressing room requests have been coming in thick and fast from the other Strictly stars. Something people looking at the Strictly Come Dancing tips should bear in mind.

Audley Harrison has requested copies of Grazia magazine and a daily pipe of Pringles (flavour to be varied on a thrice weekly basis), Anita Dobson has been asking for Yazoo strawberry milkshakes and Nice n Spicy Nik Naks, Jason Donavon wants a large tub of E45 cream and a netted bag of seedless tangerines, Harry Judd has asked for 20 Benson and Hedges cigarettes, a tartan hot water bottle cover and two bags of Skittles, and Lulu is requesting cottage cheese with pineapple in it, five cans of Fanta, and a small coconut.

Panasonic Viera GT30 46 in Review

Plasma displays have recently been abandoned by some manufacturers such as Sony and Toshiba. However, Panasonic has remained faithful to the technology and the GT30 is its most recent addition to the range.

Excellent large screens have always been a strong suit of plasma technology and the GT30 is no exception. The 46 inch display is capable of full 1080p and high definition images benefit from plasma’s usual high contrast ratio and brilliant colour detail. The GT30 also handles 3D exceptionally well, with a number of features added to eliminate blurring and a feature that allows viewers to adjust the 3D depth to their liking.

Freeview and Freesat HD tuners are integrated into the unit, giving consumers access to a wide range of free HD and standard definition channels from the moment it is plugged in, so whether you’re a fan of Reeves and Mortimer’s Shooting Stars or prefer something a little more serious, you’ll have plenty of choice without having to pay for subscriptions. Internet streaming is also available through the GT30 allowing you access to services such as BBC iPlayer and YouTube. However, it’s likely some people may never use these services as the hoops that need jumping through to access them could be daunting to some technophobes.

Being a plasma TV, the GT30 does suffer from some of the usual pitfalls of plasma technology, such as increased power usage, the risk of screen burn and increased heat output. The sound produced by the set is impressive. This is due to the fact that beefier speakers can be housed within the larger casing required for a plasma panel. Retailing at around £1,200, the GT30 is priced competitively with other brands’ similar sized plasma displays. Whilst the GT30 doesn’t excel in any one area, it does a lot of things very well and as such is definitely worth a second look if you are considering a new plasma TV.

Philips 8000 40in Review

As one of the founding companies behind both DVD and Blu Ray technology, the Dutch electronics giant Philips has long been a major player and innovator in the home entertainment market. Can its latest television make as big an impact?

The 40 inch television’s design is aesthetically pleasing and the set is, as we’ve come to expect from LED technology, very thin. When displaying images in high definition the 8000 really excels. The LED technology is used to the best of its ability to produce an incredibly high contrast ratio. A processing engine called Perfect Pixel is also used to enhance the picture quality and works very well.

Unfortunately, the 8000 is nowhere near as good at handling 3D images and requires an additional 3D kit to be purchased for £250 in order to handle 3D. Unlike many other televisions in this price range, the 8000 lacks integrated Freeview HD. This is unlikely to be an issue for subscribers to another digital service, although it could turn some people off.

The 8000 is fully internet enabled and is capable of streaming content from YouTube, Daily Motion and LoveFilm. Some popular sites, such as Foster’s, which hosts Vic and Bob’s Afternoon Delights are not directly supported however. Much like the Freeview issue, this is unlikely to be a deal breaker for customers but more of a minor annoyance.

One incredibly odd feature of the 8000 is the Ambilight system, which projects colours via LED onto the wall behind the TV that match the dominant colour of the image on screen. Whilst a tad gimmicky, the effect is unique, although it’s entirely likely some people may hate it.
The 8000 is an excellent television to buy if all you want is excellent high definition picture quality and already subscribe to a digital service provider. However, if you are wanting a television to view 3D, there are sets out there much better suited to your needs.
